What better way to start your snuggly Sunday morning than with a good book and a cup of tea?

If you are looking for satisfying mystery to sink your teeth into, look no further than Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. This novel is the epitome of the murder mystery genre. And it was the inspiration for our favorite new tea drink: Tangerine-Infused London Fog.   


But before we talk tea, let’s whet your literary appetite. Murder on the Orient Express follows the adventures of world-class detective, Hercule Poirot. This dapper, curious little man has solved some of the most baffling murder mysteries of all time – pondering clues with a twirl of his esteemed mustache.

This time, the mystery takes place right under Poirot’s nose as he travels on the Orient Express. A wealthy, yet suspicious, passenger is found dead on the train. Poirot begins to investigate the crime – interviewing all of the passengers before the murderer can strike again.



As a reader, we loved the character development Christie builds into the novel. The story unfolds through a set of sequential interviews, and each story seems to weave a bigger and bigger web around the mystery.

For us, the story became interactive. We found ourselves taking notes, re-reading paragraphs, and trying to solve the mystery alongside Poirot! This book is most definitely a page-turner, and the ending will leave your head spinning – like only a true murder mystery can.

Now, before you settle down to read, we suggest brewing yourself a nice pot of tea – Hercule Poirot would surely approve! For this tea and book pairing, try out our recipe for Tangerine-Infused London Fog. 


To start, heat sugar and water in a saucepan to create a simple syrup. Once the sugar has dissolved and liquid is clear, add tangerine rind and remove from heat.

Steep your favorite tea bag in hot water for 3-5 minutes. Mix milk and vanilla and steam or froth. For the finishing touch, add in 1-2 teaspoons of the simple syrup and stir! And yes, we decided to pay homage to our favorite mustache-twirling detective with a mustache mug! Enjoy!



For the simple syrup:

  • ½ c water
  • ½ c sugar
  • Tangerine rind


For the London Fog:

  • 1 Earl Grey tea bag
  • ½ c hot water
  • ½ c milk of choice (we used whole)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tsp infused simple syrup



  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat on medium-high, stirring constantly until all sugar is dissolved and liquid is clear. Add tangerine rind. Remove from heat.
  2. Once simple syrup is completely cool, remove the tangerine rind.
  3. Steep tea bag in hot water for 3-5 minutes. Mix milk and vanilla and steam or froth.
  4. Add 1-2 tsp simple syrup to the tea and top with frothed or steamed milk. Enjoy hot!
